Questions

Everything you need to know about building and running your own Hunt.

How does Creator Mode work?

Creator Mode is built right into The Hunt app. Once you unlock Creator Access, you can create or customize a Hunt from your phone — no separate web panel required. Start with a template or build from scratch, then add your title, description, category, cover image, locations, steps, clues, QR checkpoints, questions, puzzles, decision points, discovery content, images, audio, and more. When you’re ready, publish privately and share your join code with your group.

What kinds of Hunts can I create?

Almost anything that benefits from moving people through real locations. Create a birthday Hunt, pub crawl, bachelorette route, campus orientation, team-building challenge, employee training, fundraiser, local tour, family event, private party, or fully story-driven Hunt. Keep it simple with check-ins and directions, or make it more creative with clues, puzzles, questions, images, audio, branching decisions, and QR checkpoints.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Creator Mode is designed to be no-code and easy to use. You choose the locations, add the steps, write the prompts, and decide how players move through the experience. The Hunt app handles the structure, navigation, team play, checkpoints, join codes, and player flow.

Can my Hunt be private?

Yes. Your custom Hunt can stay private and only be available to the people you invite. Your locations, clues, images, instructions, and content are not shown publicly unless you choose to submit the Hunt for possible publication in The Hunt app. This makes Creator Mode useful for private events, company trainings, campus groups, internal activities, and personal celebrations.

How do I invite people?

When your Hunt is ready, the app generates a join code you can share with your group. Players download The Hunt app, enter the code, and join your Hunt. You can keep the experience limited to your invited players, and additional player packs are available if you want to invite more people.

Can people play as teams?

Yes. Players can participate solo or as a team. Creator Hunts can support teams of up to ten players, and larger experiences can include multiple teams. That makes it useful for parties, pub crawls, trainings, campus events, fundraisers, company activities, and larger group competitions.

Can I choose my own locations?

Yes. You can choose real-world locations yourself, use your current location, search for a place, drop a pin on the map, or select from available locations in the app. You can build around restaurants, bars, shops, parks, offices, classrooms, event stations, campus buildings, downtown stops, or any place your group can safely and appropriately visit.

Can I include Hunt Sponsor locations?

Yes. When available, you can include Official Hunt Sponsor Locations in your Hunt. Sponsor stops may include exclusive Hunt offers, welcome messages, or redemption instructions that players unlock when they arrive or scan a QR checkpoint.

What types of checkpoints can I create?

Creator Mode gives you several ways to control progress. A stop can be arrival-only, QR scan-based, question-based, or simply used to give directions and instructions. You can ask players to answer a question, scan a code, read a clue, follow directions, or unlock discovery content when they reach a location.

Can I create puzzles, questions, or branching paths?

Yes. You can add questions with accepted answers, allow close-enough matching, write wrong-answer messages, create puzzle steps, add decision points, and build branching paths between stops. A Hunt can be linear and simple, or it can split into different routes and rejoin later.

Can I add images and audio?

Yes. Creator Mode supports rich content so your Hunt can feel more polished and personal. Add cover images, discovery images, step images, audio, narration-style content, instructions, and other media that help bring your route or activity to life.

Is there a cost?

Creator Access is $9.99/month and includes up to 5 player invitations. Additional player packs are available in the app when you want to invite more people.

Can my Hunt be published for everyone?

Yes. Most Creator Hunts are private, but if you create something polished, fun, well-structured, and a good fit for The Hunt audience, you can submit it for possible publication in The Hunt app. Published Hunts are reviewed by The Hunt team and are not automatically accepted. If we think your Hunt could be a strong fit for public release, we’ll talk with you about next steps, edits, publishing approval, and any potential creator compensation or royalty arrangement before it goes live.

Can I earn money if my Hunt is published?

Possibly. If The Hunt chooses to publish your Hunt for public play, we may negotiate a creator agreement that includes royalties, revenue share, flat fees, or another payment structure based on the type of Hunt, audience, ownership rights, production needs, and how the Hunt is offered in the app.Private Hunts are generally created for your own group or event. Publicly published Hunts are handled separately and require review, approval, and written agreement with The Hunt.

Do you work with content creators or IP owners?

Yes. We are interested in working with writers, puzzle creators, escape room designers, influencers, local storytellers, tourism creators, educators, brands, entertainers, and IP owners who want to bring great real-world experiences into The Hunt.If you have characters, stories, routes, puzzles, local knowledge, an audience, or a concept you think people would love playing through the app, we’d like to see it. The best published Hunts should feel fun, original, easy to play, and built for people who want something different to do in the real world.

Can I submit an existing concept, story, or IP?

Yes. If you own or control the rights to a story, character, puzzle format, tour concept, event format, brand, or audience-driven idea, you can submit it for consideration. We’ll review whether it fits The Hunt experience and, if there’s a match, discuss how it could be developed, published, promoted, and compensated. Please only submit content you created or have the rights to use.
